The race was around a beautiful lake in the north east of Korea. The course and the conditions were very challenging. Then mens event started fast, and after several strong attacks and counter attacks Joey Mantia and Yann Guyader finally broke the pack. From their Scott Arlidge controlled the pack, and launched the final sprint for his team mate Kalon dobbin to take a nice 3rd place. Matter wheels took a clean sweep of the podium. Also Mr Nam from Korea put in an impressive marathon finishing a very respectable 5th place. In the ladies race, the hard working and super strong Nathalie Barbotin took a good 3rd place. It was a short, but intense 21km race around the center of Berlin. It was a good day for us, Yann took another win. Now its time to get back into the training for another hard block of work before I head to Korea at the end of next week. Since the last time I wrote the Colombians have had their selections. From the long distance guys there were no big surprises. Diego Rosero led the Cali guys in a dominating performance. I also caught up with the news that the French team was also named. So many of the national teams are taking shape. In NZ we actually have our national championships in January (its summer time in NZ) and so our team has been selected for some time now. I am really looking forward to these next 10 days. These are the days when the differences can be made. However in a couple of days time, I am not sure I will be so motivated. haha. I will be in touch.

<dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:source>http://www.powerslide.de/2009/psnews/ps_logo_400px.jpg</dc:source>
GIC x-race Berlin. Yann Guyader and Sabine Berg dominate

Sabine Berg led home a fast finishing PS/Matter train at the ladies race in Berlin this afternoon. She won ahead of her team mate Checy Banea and junior PS skater Kati Rumpus. The mens race started off with many attacks from all skaters. Athletes from both PS/Matter teams were very present. Around half way through the race a lead group of around 7 or 8 skaters formed. Shortly afterwards it was narrowed down to 4 skaters. With all the major teams happy with the situation, it would be these 4 skaters who would contest for the major places. Yann Guyader was feeling super good, and after having covering several attacks from his breakaway companions led out his own sprint to take a comfortable win. The main pack came in shortly after, and Scott Arlidge too 6th place, and Felix Rijhnen took 7th. Sabine and Felix maintain their position on top of the GIC overall rankings. The next race from the GIC is in Geisingen on the 11th of September.

<dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:source>http://www.powerslide.de/2009/psnews/ps_logo_400px.jpg</dc:source>
Worlds 2010- Gateway to Guarne #1, by Scott Arlidge

It is just under 10 weeks until the World Championships start in Guarne, Colombia. Together with PS/Matter I will be writing a diary of my preparations for this years Championships. For the moment I do not really have too much news for you, but closer to the time I imagine there will be a lot more news and stories to tell. At the moment I am in a period of very hard training. Firstly, the break from racing has allowed me to train harder without having to worry about being fresh for racing. Secondly I have been lucky enough to be training at the arena in Geisingen which has a totally covered roof. So even though the European summer has not been great I have not had to miss a training session because of bad weather. Of course there is all the talk, as there always is leading into a World Championships. The track, the skaters, what wheels etc. The track and the wheels I will wait until I arrive in Colombia. I am lucky to go there early and so then I will have a chance to decide things for myself. As far as the skaters are concerned, the worlds are always hard. Right now Bart Swings seems to be the man to beat in the long distance events. I have heard rumours that some of the Asian countries will not attend the worlds because they have Asian Games, but you never know. Colombia is always super good, however this year I think they will be that little bit better because it is a home championships for them, and Diego Rosero is coming back to racing worlds. It must be said that some of my toughest opponents will be the guys I race with almost every week at PS. I will not totally focus on Worlds just yet. I have a couple of important events first. This coming week I will racing in the berlin x race. Until next time, Scott.

<dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:source>http://www.powerslide.de/2009/psnews/ps_logo_400px.jpg</dc:source>
Impresions from the European Championships 2010 - Kati Rumpus

Hi all,<br /><br />here some nice pics of the 2golden girl&quot;,&nbsp; Kati Rumpus. Kwinten won the 1,500m and the 30km street race. Several other high rankings ensured he won the overall ranking. His PS/Matter team mate Felix Rijhnen won the last race of the weekend, the elimination race. This was enough to put him onto the 3rd step of the podium overall. In the ladies Sabine Berg continued her hot form from the European Championships by easily taking the overall win. Kati Rumpus finished a good 2nd place overall. She was racing in the senior category while still being a junior. Powerslide junior super talent <strong>Katharina Rumpus</strong> managed to capture 9 medals out of 10 starts. The race was held on the same course it used to be held on several years ago, and including the famous hill. Both the mens and ladies races started at 15:00. The guys wanted a sprint finish, this is easier said than done because on a course like Bern our team came under attack from the first time up the hill, until the very last time up the hill. There were several strong attacks from the swiss skaters on Rollerblade Luginio, and the Arena Geisingen/Bont team. Our guys managed to cover everything and Yann Guyader repaid the guys for their hard work by capturing his second WIC victory of the season. The ladies race was Checy Baenas first race back in Europe after a short stay in Colombia. The difficult course actually suited her team mate, Nathalie Barbotin well. So Nathalie tried to take her chance by attacking many times, but it was not meant to be, so Checy did what she does best and won. The next stop for many of our skaters is the Berlin x-race in 2 weeks.
