Matter cleans up at Chuncheon WIC

This morning was the second Korean WIC event of the season in Chuncheon, Korea. The race was around a beautiful lake in the north east of Korea. The course and the conditions were very challenging. Then mens event started fast, and after several strong attacks and counter attacks Joey Mantia and Yann Guyader finally broke the pack. From their Scott Arlidge controlled the pack, and launched the final sprint for his team mate Kalon dobbin to take a nice 3rd place. Matter wheels took a clean sweep of the podium. Also Mr Nam from Korea put in an impressive marathon finishing a very respectable 5th place. In the ladies race, the hard working and super strong Nathalie Barbotin took a good 3rd place. Behind Nicole Begg and Giovanna Turchiarelli.

Another week down...

I'm writing to you just after changing my wheels from the X Race on Sunday. It was a short, but intense 21km race around the center of Berlin. It was a good day for us, Yann took another win. Now its time to get back into the training for another hard block of work before I head to Korea at the end of next week. Since the last time I wrote the Colombians have had their selections. From the long distance guys there were no big surprises. Diego Rosero led the Cali guys in a dominating performance. I also caught up with the news that the French team was also named. So many of the national teams are taking shape. In NZ we actually have our national championships in January (its summer time in NZ) and so our team has been selected for some time now. I am really looking forward to these next 10 days. These are the days when the differences can be made. However in a couple of days time, I am not sure I will be so motivated. haha. I will be in touch.

Worlds 2010- Gateway to Guarne #1, by Scott Arlidge

It is just under 10 weeks until the World Championships start in Guarne, Colombia. Together with PS/Matter I will be writing a diary of my preparations for this years Championships. For the moment I do not really have too much news for you, but closer to the time I imagine there will be a lot more news and stories to tell. At the moment I am in a period of very hard training. Firstly, the break from racing has allowed me to train harder without having to worry about being fresh for racing. Secondly I have been lucky enough to be training at the arena in Geisingen which has a totally covered roof. So even though the European summer has not been great I have not had to miss a training session because of bad weather. Of course there is all the talk, as there always is leading into a World Championships. The track, the skaters, what wheels etc. The track and the wheels I will wait until I arrive in Colombia. I am lucky to go there early and so then I will have a chance to decide things for myself. As far as the skaters are concerned, the worlds are always hard. Right now Bart Swings seems to be the man to beat in the long distance events. I have heard rumours that some of the Asian countries will not attend the worlds because they have Asian Games, but you never know. Colombia is always super good, however this year I think they will be that little bit better because it is a home championships for them, and Diego Rosero is coming back to racing worlds. It must be said that some of my toughest opponents will be the guys I race with almost every week at PS. I will not totally focus on Worlds just yet. I have a couple of important events first. This coming week I will racing in the berlin x race. Until next time, Scott.

Flanders Grand Prix- Kwinten takes a home win

Kwinten Tas from the Powerslide Matter Europe team won his home race in Belgium this past weekend; the Flanders GP. Kwinten won the 1,500m and the 30km street race. Several other high rankings ensured he won the overall ranking. His PS/Matter team mate Felix Rijhnen won the last race of the weekend, the elimination race. This was enough to put him onto the 3rd step of the podium overall. In the ladies Sabine Berg continued her hot form from the European Championships by easily taking the overall win. Kati Rumpus finished a good 2nd place overall. She was racing in the senior category while still being a junior. Next race for our athletes is the Berlin x-race on the 22nd of August.

Matter Wheels Conquer Colorado

Matter wheels delivered Joey Mantia to a "Perfect Game". Joey won the 300m TT, 500m, 1000m, 10,000m points/elim, and 15,000m elim. He set a couple of National records along the way too. We are not sure if a single skater has won every single distances at the US Nationals on track before. Anyway it has been a super successful few days for Mantia and Matter. From everyone at the Matter HQ- congratulations.

Great Performance of Powerslide skaters at the EC

Great Performance of Powerslide skaters at the European Championships

The European Championships 2010 are history and its time to summarize the results of the Powerslide teamskater.

The typical italian chaos of the organization of the competitions could not stop the Powerslide skater at all.

It have been HER Championships. Powerslide junior super talent Katharina Rumpus managed to capture 9 medals out of 10 starts. She took 4x gold, 3 silver and 2x gold.

Sabine Berg again demonstrated her extra class catching 3x gold and 3x bronce.

Powerslide Juniorskater Alisa Gutermuth has been able to get 3 times on the podium. She received 1x gold and 2x silver for her great performence.

Mareike Thum worked hard for the team, but still took a complete collection of medals back home to Germany.

Fabio Francolini and Matteo Amabili captured 2 medals each. Fabio (aka Fonzie) took gold and bronce while Matteo managed to win 2x silver. Both skaters also showed great attitude traveling right after the marathon race overnight to Bern to join the rest of the Powerslide World team for the WIC race.

Ingmar Bergaa
from Holland was the surprising winner in the final marathon race

Congratulations from the headquarter to the great results.

Mantia and Matter make it 2 from 2.

Joey Mantia just won his second title in as many races at the US outdoor nationals. Yesterday he claimed his first in the 300m TT, and then was set to race the 1000m, but it was postponed until this morning because of rain. Joey set national records in both distances. He is wearing Matter Defcon, plus he has been testing a new wheel that will be on the market soon. I guess the results speak for themselves there. US Powerslide skater Briana Kramer was 3rd in the ladies 1000m, she will be looking forward to the long distance races that will take place later today.
