I want to give you a quick recap about my last 4 weeks: I spent my first out of three weeks of school holidays at home celebrating Christmas with my family. I really tried to do as much kilometers as I could on bike, ice and skates which was difficult because of freezing temperatures of -15°c and less. I was maybe a little to motivated which led to a flu that really knocked me down for almost a week! But around New Years Eve I was getting better again which was just in time for a training camp in Berlin. During those 10 days I could skate on perfect ice every day which really made me feel much more comfortable. I also trained Shorttrack a few times which was great for technique and a lot of fun!
Back from Berlin school started immediately - actually my last 8 weeks of school! So right now I have to work a little more for my final exams which makes it quite difficult to get my training program done. Anyway with my weightlifting I already improved about 8-10% compared to last year which makes me confident that I’m slowly getting into shape.
August 22nd 2010 Berlin´s only pure inline event will take place for the 9th time. Down town Berlin on a flat circuit between the Brandenburger Tor and the famous underground station Tiergarten, the half marathon event offers great races for the World elite, hobby skater and kids. At the same time the X race is a stage of the German inline cup. Powerslide was very impressed by the race and is now proud to be the exclusive skate partner of the X race.
Wide streets and smooth asphalt pave the road to really fast times, and make the heart of any speedskater beat faster. Only at X race, the women have their exclusive own race with the unshared attention of the crowd. Furthermore the the Xrace offers fun kids races (SCC kids cup), exciting for both participants as well as the supporting crowd.
„we are very excited to have found a strong new partner as Powerslide. X race and Powerslide are simply the perfect match” states Alexander Uphues of SCC skating. The growing Powerslide group is ever more present in each segment it is active in. Powerslide supports the inline skating movement more than any other brand, WE LOVE TO SKATE is not just the slogan, it´s the life philosophy of each Powerslide employee. Furthermore the best skaters of the World commit to Powerslide: Yann Guyader, Cechy Baena, Kalon Dobbin etc.
When we asked enthusiastic hobby skater asked to describe their perfect skate most of the time we received answers like: he should be light, possibly fast, easy to manage and to turn, should have good ventilation and offer perfect support. None of the currently available fitness skates could satisfy all these demands. The Powerslide Phuzion 8 can! It has an individually adjustable cuff to offer perfect support for each and everyone. Its 3x110mm wheels allow highest speed without losing controil thanks to the short farame and the low position. Its open construction offers stability together with unparallelled aircirculation. Its weight is around 30% under the weight of the average fitness skate.
The press is lyric:
“skate for the demanding skater with newly developed Open-shoe concept. The system entails everything one could desire in terms of comfort, stability and ventilation., the high quality aluminum Hawk frame with 3x110mm/82A Infinity wheels, superfast PS German freespin bearings and the highest security trhanks to the height adjustable braking system”
You can find the Phuzion 8 OPEN AIR in any good skateshop and of course at all the events the Powerslide promovan will be present.
This opportunity towards the middle of 2009 and even though it was tough to leave some of my friends at the Zepto/Bont set up I knew I had to take this chance. So I’m really looking forward to starting the season because its going to be great racing with guys like Yann and Kalon.
However racing isn’t the only think I’ll be doing at Powerslide, in fact its only half the story. Together with the guys in USA I’ll be working on a range of new wheels for 2010 and beyond. I’m really motivated to do this because testing wheels, developing them and racing on them is a real passion of mine.
Acutally I’m a pretty busy guy because I also have a role inside the huge skating project in Geisingen, Germany. For those of you that don’t know, Geisingen is a small village in Southern Germany and very soon it will have Europe’s premier inline skating facility. So now I’m spending more and more time in Europe. In the past years I’d only spend around six or seven months there, but now its much more. I’m actually very luck because my new fiancé also works there. She is from New Zealand also and so to find her a job in Germany is great.
So, yes we plan to get married soon. Well kind of soon, January 2011. I’m sure time will pass very quickly. I have to be honest in the fact that I was a little naive about a wedding. Don’t get me wrong I want to get married but its really a lot of work. Sometimes it makes training and racing look like a walk in the park. Ok, it’s a little more difficult for us because we’ve had to organize many this off season in a short space of time because its very difficult to organize something from the other side of the world. I waited a pretty long time to get engaged, but I went in with the thinking of, “do it once, do it right” and I have the same thinking about our wedding.
So what does my day look like in January. 7:30 - Wake up. 7:45 - Eat breakfast, drink coffee, read all the emails I’ve had over night from the Powerslide and Matter guys. I’ll also reply if anything is urgent. 8:30 - First training of the day. For example today I did 3.5 hours cycling. 12:30 - Eat lunch and relax a little bit. 14:30 - Go back over some emails, do all the replies that need to be done. 17:00 - Second training for the day. Always on skates, indoor or out on the road. 19:00 - Dinner time. In New Zealand I still live with my parents. Its not worth renting an apartment for a few months, plus it’s the “cheapest hotel in the world”. 22:00 - No late nights for me. I’m an old man and I need my sleep :-)
